The government has undertaken the construction of Port of Songkhla and Port of Phuket in order to achieve the following objectives:
1) To provide suitable outlets for export cargo traffic from the Southern Region of Thailand,
2) To stimulate industrial development in the Region and,
3) To facilitate direct imports of cargo thereby avoiding the need for transhipment through Bangkok Port.
On 21st October, 1988. Chaophaya Terminal International Co.,Ltd. (CTIC) made history when they enter into an agreement with the government to manage Port of Songkhla and Port of Phuket under the general supervision of the Monitoring and Support Committee set up by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The Ports were brought into operation on the 6th Decenber 1988
The Port are equipped with up to date modern equipment to meet the needs of exporters, importers, ocean shipping liners and the business community. And the Ports are staffed with personnel who are fully coversant with modern port management. CTIC as the Port Managing and Operating Company is confident of providing and efficient and cost effective service to its customers.
